We would like to bring to your attention a petition launched on the initiative of Mr Costas Mavrides, Member of the European Parliament (S&D) and Chairman of the Political Committee for the Mediterranean, calling for the “Immediate ban of the Grey Wolves at EU level” ....

The “Grey Wolves” are an extreme ultranationalist organisation with a long history of violence and murders especially against minorities, both in and outside Turkey. They are active in the EU, mainly in countries with large Turkish minorities, inciting hate speech and imposing terror, violence and fear against dissidents. The Grey Wolves have been referred to by governments, scholars and journalists, as a terrorist organisation.
Following the decision of the French government, on the 4th of November 2020 to ban the “Grey Wolves”, Mr Costas Mavrides together with other Members of the European Parliament, (including Chairs and Vice-Chairs of European Parliament’s Committees and Vice Presidents of the European Parliament and Political Groups) addressed a letter to Josep Borrell, Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, calling for an immediate ban at EU level of the Grey Wolves and its umbrella associations. As a follow-up action of that letter and with “Grey Wolves” being under increasing scrutiny in Europe, this petition is very timely as there is an urgent need in EU to react united against such organisations which run counter and are detrimental to EU values and principles.
Given the importance of this initiative, it would be greatly appreciated if you report on the petition for your respective media. MEP Mavrides is also available for interviewing, upon prior inquiry.
