πιστή σύμμαχος του Ισραήλ, των ΗΠΑ και της ΕΕ και καταδικάζει τον αντισημιτισμό.
H συνάντηση έγινε στα πλαίσια της εκστρατείας
"Take action to combat antisemitism", στην οποία το Global Jewish Advocacy, προτρέπει τους πολίτες των Ευρωπαϊκών χωρών, να πιέσουν τους ηγέτες τους να συμμετάσχουν στην "Ειδική Ομάδα για τον Αντισημτισμό" (New Bipartisan Taskforce on Anti-Semitism), στέλνοντας την παρακάτω επιστολή στους βουλευτές τους:
As your constituent, I am writing to convey my deep concern about the rise of anti-Semitism throughout the world, particularly in Europe, and to urge you to join a new Congressional taskforce created to combat global anti-Semitism.
On February 15, 2015, following a murderous attack on a group engaged in debating free speech and satire, a gunman killed a Jewish security guard protecting the entrance to Copenhagen’s Great Synagogue. This horrifying act of terror was only the most recent in a wave of deadly anti-Semitic attacks. Four Jewish hostages were targeted and killed at a kosher market in Paris in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attacks in January 2015. In May 2014, four people were killed by a gunman targeting the Jewish Museum in Brussels.
There has also been a significant rise in anti-Semitic vandalism, harassment, and assault. Angry crowds marched in the streets of France, Belgium, and Germany during the latest Israel-Gaza conflict, shouting slogans such as “Gas the Jews!” and “Death to the Jews!” While a number of European leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, have laudably spoken out and taken swift action against anti-Semitism, the threat remains.
Congress can encourage government officials in Europe and throughout the world to take a firm stand against anti-Semitism and protect their Jewish citizens. To this end, Representatives Kay Granger (R-TX), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Peter Roskam (R-IL), Chris Smith (R-NJ), Ted Deutch (D-FL), Eliot Engel (D-NY), Steve Israel (D-NY), and Nita Lowey (D-NY) have launched the Bipartisan Taskforce on Anti-Semitism. It will work with European officials and diplomatic contacts to craft policies aimed at protecting Jewish communities, monitor anti-Semitic incidents, prevent radicalized citizens from spawning terror, and educate against anti-Semitism.
I appreciate your consideration of my views on this critical matter and encourage you to join this important new taskforce.
